Hacia el Litoral (Towards the Coast) brought together a range of artists and alternative communication practices in order to explore the relationship between Panama and Colombia in the Pacific regions of Chocó and Darién.
Artist Yolanda Chois developed the idea and invited artists from both countries to get involved. MaMa was asked to produce the project because of its relationship with Chocó and its interest in ideas relating to utopia.
In Panama, several organisations and artists joined the project including Almanaque Azúl – a research and education foundation; Estudio Nuboso; Michelle Szejner (biologist with specific interest in ethnobotany); Orgun Wagua (documentarist); Mauro Colombo (audiovisual director); Patricia Verón (photographer); Carolina Angel (journalist); Gabino Trueba (cartographer) and Ela Spalding (artist and cultural manager).
On the Colombian side, Noís radio (a collective dedicated to the production of live radio programmes, soundscape mixing with improvisation); La n-ésima (a collective that develops social mapping and free cultural content); Melisa Saavedra Gil (visual anthropologist); Leonardo Herrera (artist); Camilo Aguilera (researcher and sociologist); Evelyn Soto Arismendi (photographer); Miguel Tejada (writer and illustrator) and Bagual Project (sampler, hip-hop and radio).
