Colombian artist Elkin Calderón was proposed by MaMa to participate in the an international workshop KM0 Abubuya with our partner Kiosko in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. The workshop included visual artists and participants who were invited to explore part of the Mamoré River and its communities in the Department of Beni, Bolivia. The word Abubuya in Moxeño language means to go with the flow.

Through this shared journey, the workshop encouraged reflections on the role of water – as a way of communication, as social resource and as a common good. The results included artworks, texts, an audiovisual documentary, a traveling exhibition and a catalogue.

Calderón’s Ocoró-catrera and Queen of Enín resulted from this experience and the photographs were published in Better Than.
