MICROmacro for the 13 Salon Regional de Artistas was curated by Fernando Arias and Jonathan Colin. It began with a bacteriologist leading a series of workshops for artists, giving them an opportunity to learn more about the microscopic world. Participants were encouraged to consider how life and society function on a microscopic level.
The human relationship to the environment, violence and displacement were addressed. Questions were asked that required detailed scientific observation in order to find answers; societal problems were put under a microscope. Through their artistic practices participants attempted to shed light on pressing concerns.
At the 42nd National Artists’ Salon three MICROmacro artists participated: Santiago Escobar and Libya Posada investigated the problem of forced displacement and Rolf Abderhalden explored the world of transformism.
