Más Arte Más Acción, in alliance with the Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena (FICCI), developed the second alliance between the two organisations. Artists, directors, filmmakers and special guests were invited to travel around Colombia to give talks and master classes. MAMA offered FICCI the opportunity to be part of its residency programme, offering a Space to Reflect in the Chocó Base.
The Iranian photographer Newsha Tavakolian was this year’s selected artist, who had presented a series of photographs called “Women Fighters“ at the FICCI. In this photographic series Newsha captured the lives of women guerrilla fighter of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) as they prepared to leave the jungle and rejoin society
During her time in Colombia she visited the Centro de Memoria Paz y Reconciliación (Centre for Memory, Peace and Reconciliation) and on International Women’s Day participated in the talk “Finding Mirrors: Diverse Women, Representation and Struggle“, an encounter where ex-fighters guerrilla and victims of the armed conflict considered their different realities. The talk encouraged mutual recognition and reconciliation through photography.
Finally, Tavakolian visited the Chocó Base as a space to reflect on her experience in Colombia.
