Dominic Oliver Dudley is an architect who is particularly interested in the materials buildings are shaped from, and the various ways in which the many parts of a building can fit together. He is passionate about research and making, and over the years he has undertaken projects in places as diverse as Ghana, Sierra Leone, Japan and the UK. In Sierra Leone he worked explored the evolution of Freetown, investigating historic timber Krio Board Houses. Dominic was also able to construct furniture with local carpentry apprentices for a nearby school. He has spent time in Japan in the forested area of Hida, exploring traditional Japanese timber houses called Minka. Meeting with local carpenters working in this tradition, he built furniture using local wood and joinery techniques. Dominic is based in the UK where he works for a large architectural practice. But whenever he has an opportunity he travels, always looking for new experiences to inspire his practice.
