For 2017 Freya Cobbin was selected as the first beneficiary of a three year Rogelio Salmona Fellowship programme. Supported by the British Council the fellowship is designed to promote knowledge and interest in the Colombian architect in the United Kingdom. Salmona was one of the most influential modern architects in Latin America.
During her visit she explored Bogotá and discovered Salmona’s projects throughout the city. She also had the opportunity to interview different people who worked with the architect. Freya visited towns including Armenia, Salento, Pereira and Manizales, where she met construction workers at the Cultural Centre of the Universidad de Caldas, a building largely designed by Salmona and built following his death. She then traveled to the Chocó Base to reflect on her experience of Salmona’s buildings and ideas, especially in relation to the natural environment.
