The Prophecy” is a global project that combines art, culture and tradition to create critical fictions about the causes and consequences of what the artist Fabrice Monteiro calls “ecological plagues that threaten the planet.” The idea was born in Senegal when noticing the lack of environmental awareness that the inhabitants of its territory have. The intention of the artist is to tell a story from the animism, the cultural roots of Africa and the ecology to promote reflection and contribute to the awakening of an ecological conscience.

The first part of the project, 9 images dealing with 9 ecological pests in Senegal: Plastic consumption, oil pollution, waste dumping in the ocean without reprocessing, coastal erosion, air pollution, among others, were supported by Senegalese designer Doulsy for the creation of the dresses of terrifying characters that wander amidst spooky debris. They are spirits, says Monteiro, on a mission to change human behaviors and generate an awareness to behave responsibly.

This year, Más Arte Más Acción together with Exploratorio del Parque Explora, science museum of Medellin, received Fabrice Monteiro thanks to Arts Collaboratory scholarships for international artists in Colombia. Monteiro will develop one of his prophecies in relation to his experiences in the Basé Chocó of More Art More Action and work in the Exploratory in Medellín. In the latter he also gave a lecture entitled: “Climatic Prophecies: Afrofuturismo or Afroconscientismo?”, About his photographic work that goes to represent the environmental damage and denounce them.

The artist was accompanied by fashion designer Adriana Kanal specializing in stage and performance costumes, fashion photography, styling and conceptual fashion. During a month of work, Kanal attended the creation of the costumes for the project and from the photographer’s hand he designed and manufactured the necessary clothing to create a style that matches the environmental criticism of Monteiro’s work.
